Explore, Discover, Set Sail for the Future

Leslie S. Conery, PhDWelcome to NECC 2006! Mark your calendars, budget, and plan now for the 27th annual National Educational Computing Conference. Join more than 16,000 teachers, technology coordinators, library media specialists, teacher educators, administrators, policy makers, industry representatives, and students from all over the world who'll gather July 5–7, 2006, in the beautiful and family-friendly Pacific coast city of San Diego.

Our purpose? To help shape the future of education. How? By bringing together the best Ed Tech has to offer. NECC 2006 is seeking session proposals in a variety of program formats that
  • highlight promising practices for leadership and school transformation in urban, suburban, and rural settings
  • explore essential questions about technology and accountability
  • emphasize the ethics and equity issues involved in all these topics
This year we're especially interested in proposals that focus on the future of education. Where will current trends take us, and is that where we want to be in 2010 or 2020? How do we envision a better future? Can we develop an intentional course toward that better future? We invite proposals that address these questions through the lens of
  • leadership skills
  • student skills and knowledge
  • emerging technologies and learning environments
Greater opportunities for all 21st-century learners — let's keep our eyes on that prize as we explore educational horizons and discover together a better future. Complete details on submitting a proposal will be available September 2, 2005; see the Program section for information on Special Program Emphasis, themes and strands, categories, NETS, and more.

I look forward to hearing how you chart the course!
